Semana de Desafios - Wrap Up

Before I get into the juicy stuff, a new welcome is in order! It can't be coincidence that I gave my sister a hard time for 1) never commenting and 2) her boyfriend not being a member of the Team... and when I checked my stats this morning, I had one enormous (and hilarious) comment from Rani and a new Team member. So, thanks for the comment Rani. And thanks, THOMAS WISE, for finally representing! Points for both of you!

(Tom, did Rani sign you up?)

Our week of activities has finally come to a close and overall, the kids LOVED it. We were wildly successful with this event. (Guaruma +1) Here's how the rest of the week played out:

On Tuesday, because of the rain (-1 Honduras), we had to move all activities indoors. The assignment was for each team member to draw one animal, cut it into three pieces (head, torso, tail) and then create a new animal (and name it) with pieces from each of the drawings.

After that was completed, they needed to come up with a design to be painted on the Guaruma table.

Following this task, each team had to take a "family portrait" of themselves using a camera and a tri-pod.

On Wednesday, we had our activities in El Pital. Their tasks included staging pictures of team or community members doing typical Honduran things: Washing laundry, Cooking, Hitching a ride, and Fishing.

Finally, on Thursday, each team had to perform their own melody to the Guaruma song. (Guaruma has a song?) They did awesomely.

Then the real fun began. Each team needed to huddle together so that everybody was inside a tiny circle (somehow) without any feet or other body parts outside of a circle chalked into the grass. They loved this. Talk about team bonding.

Then we had a balloon traveling contest where they had to use only their knees to transfer the balloon from one team mate to another across the entire length of the field.

And our last activity, and probably the funniest to watch, was a relay race which involved getting dressed and undressed in oversized clothing. They had to put on a pair of pants, shoes, and a button up shirt (buttons needed to be done and undone each time) and race to the other end of the field and back, undress, and switch.

The winning team, after tallying the points for the entire week, was the Barracudas. They won Guaruma t-shirts. To celebrate the end of the day, we provided a sandwiches, juice, and disposable cameras to each student and then played a game of soccer.

It was such a fun week and a great way to wrap everything up. Next on the agenda is our "End of the Year" trip to Tela (beach town) with the best students. We are set to leave on Saturday morning, stay overnight and return on Sunday. Then....

VACATION!

Fab.
