Guaruma Goes To Sambo

In an impromptu moment (at least for me, because I'm always the last to know things), the Guaruma team decided to spend the day on the beach at Sambo Creek. 10 of us - myself, Ulises (Director), Sara (Environment), Benjamin (Photography), Franklin (Computer), Camilo (Assistant), Mac (Former Photography), and 3 interns all packed into the Guaruma truck and headed to the playa!

We stopped on the side of the road to pick up some provisions for the day.

Fresh mangoes, pineapple, bananas, and watermelon. Yum!

We got to the beach and found a shady spot to keep our things and pose for a picture.

Then the swimming began...

Ingrid enjoying the water.

Zimara after she was carried into the ocean by the boys.

Two local boys enjoying the sun.

After all that swimming, you can bet we were hungry for some juicy, warm fruit that had been sitting in the car for 2 hours.

Ulises cutting the pineapple.

And this is what happens when you have 2 professional photographers and 2 student photographers. A photo shoot...

Delicious

There's no more pineapple, Amy.

Just kidding.

Make a funny face!

Sara enjoying her slice.

Franklin trying to be so GQ. Yes, he's a former student. Yes, he's Honduran. Yes, he looks like a whitey.

Camilo plus mango.

Photographers...
After we were stuffed with fruit, we wanted to take a group picture to remember how much fun and sun we had that day!

We sent Ingrid to retrieve our soccer ball from 30 local guys who asked to borrow it from a game. To our surprise, she was successful. This girl has more attitude than those 30 guys knew what to do with.

Sambo Creek is a Garifuna (Afro-Caribbean decent) village and has a culture of its own. We were so lucky to catch a drum circle with women doing the Punta (traditional Garifuna dance) and singing.

We said goodbye to Sambo in search for food and futbol. It was the Honduran national game (Tegucigalpa vs. team from San Pedro Sula). It was imperative that we got to a TV pronto...

... but not before posing for a silly picture and...

... getting Chinese take-out. Does anyone else think this is funny?

Food court Chinese. Class Act.
It was a long day and we were tired. Some of us were faking it...

... while others just passed out.

I guess thats what Chinese Food, sun, and lots of fun will do to you!

  1. chinese food in honduras!? is that a rarity? how frequently do you see random foreign food places? what types? are there burger joints? what is seven times three plus (one times eight minus four)?
